I am blessed to be father to young adults. Claire and Pete live close-by and are awaiting the arrival of another generation of blessing. Josh is nearing the end of his studies and awaiting the arrival of a new life (other than studying). Our family experienced disruption a few years back that took us through difficult times but definitely redirected my life. Hopefully focusing my eyes on His Kingdom, I have come to value the brokenness that happens in life.

I wish I could figure out: Balance . . . in more than one area of life.

In my free time I like to: Write. Actually, I imagine more than I write, but I have this ‘edge of reality’ epic story nearing completion.

If I could invite two people to dinner: living, dead, or fictional I would invite… I often imagine spending time with a cobbler from some small European village several centuries ago . . . a man who lived quietly with unhindered love and devotion to the Lord. And if C.S. Lewis could bring Aslan along . . . definitely!

My walk with Christ has taught me… to value the ‘least of these’, and think of all believers as my brothers and sisters, especially the poor, persecuted, imprisoned.

My perfect day: Don’t think I’ve seen it yet.

Our family is what I call a “boy family.” I would be the one lone resident female; I have to plan my emotional meltdowns to fit their schedule J.  I adore my three…no,…my four boys: Lucas, Christian, Alex, and the one I married – Kendall. All are in there 20’s – except the one I married. When we are together we are loud, a bit obnoxious, and we laugh a lot.

In my free time I like to: walk/hike outdoors, bicycle, kayak, read.

I wish I had time to:  travel to far away places on this beautiful earth (a bit of money would help too).

Scripture life verse:  Had to go with both of these….

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7

And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:18-19

What We Believe

We can be flexible with our systems and processes and have to constantly change our methods if we desire to be relevant in our community. But when it comes to our beliefs, these are the unchanging non-negotiables that ground us. We fully believe in all of the fundamental truths of God’s Word.

VISION

Come. Grow. Live.

The Bible is God Inspired – 2 Timothy 3:16,17

The Bible is our compass for living. The Old and New Testament is given by God for us to study so we can apply its lessons. Scripture is the ultimate authority for life.
Scripture is the ultimate authority for life.
God is the One True God and Jesus Christ is His Son – John 17:3
There is one all powerful God that is the creator of Heaven and Earth. He loved us so much that he sent his Son so we can have a relationship with Him. Jesus Christ is fully God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, taught truth, died on a cross, and resurrected from the dead. His same healing power is available for us today.

People Sin. God Saves – Romans 6:23

We mess up and the Bible calls it sin. God created us in his own image, but we chose disobedience. We deserve death and separation from God, but by his grace through his Son Jesus we can be forgiven. By trusting God as our Lord and Savior, we can experience freedom and live an amazing life.

Communion and Water Baptism – Acts 2:41,42

There are two ways we can remember what Jesus did for us on the cross. Communion is memorial and a celebration. The eucharist consists of two elements: the bread helps reminds of his body and the cup reminds of his blood. The Bible encourages us to follow his example by being immersed in water as soon as possible after we make a decision to follow him. It is a public way for us to show that we are changed.

One-Eighty Lifestyle – Romans 12:1,2

God welcomes us the way we are, but change begins to happen from the inside out. We stop living for ourselves and desire to glorify God by our actions and words.

The Holy Spirit – Acts 1:8

The baptism of the Holy Spirit gives us power to share the good news of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin. He gives us different gifts so we can build up the church and love others. The gifts of the spirit demonstrated in an orderly way are a beautiful and vital part of the church.

The Church – Ephesians 4:12

The church is filled with authentic followers of Jesus who follow the New Testament church in its five purposes. The mission of the church is to become friends with the unconvinced so there may be opportunities for them to become life long followers of Christ.

God’s Plan for the End Times – 1 Thessalonians 4:17

The Bible says that Jesus will return to the earth to bring his followers to Heaven. There will be a final judgement in which the dead will be resurrected and judged. Everyone whose name is not in the Book of Life, will be separated for eternity in Hell. Those whose names are written in the Book of Life will be rewarded and spend eternity with other followers in Christ in Heaven.

Growth Opportunities

Scriptural Mandate

The Church Spring Green Community Church envisions spiritual growth happening via two pathways that work in tandem with each other:

GROWTH GROUPS

Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up, stimulate, and incite one another to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together (as believers), as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching (Amplified Bible).

Our growth groups exist in several forms:

1) Sermon Based: These groups meet weekly to “pound out” the Sunday sermon a little deeper and a little wider. They take what God has given in the Sunday morning teaching and “make it real” together in community. It is a great place for people who have recently begun to attend SGCC to connect a bit deeper with others and build friendships.

2) Theme Based: At times we may group ourselves based on a specific area of interest, whether it be a cultural issue, a common hobby, or an area of scripture we want to study together. If it interests you and will help you navigate your world God’s way, it’s there for you.

3) Events & Retreats: These are one time opportunities for a group of people to take advantage of, offering spiritual experiences to inspire you in your walk with Jesus.

Click here to see the current opportunities available to you

SPIRITUAL FORMATION Romans 12:1-2 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

We are working toward integrating spiritual practices (like prayer, scriptural meditation, solitude, etc…) into our growth opportunities. These practices challenge and teach you to “feed” yourself with God’s truth – allowing Him to transform you from the inside out.

Presently we offer Study Questions in the bulletin each week that you can use to dig deeper into the Sunday teaching (sermon-based growth groups use these for their group discussion). Often there are suggestions that guide you into spiritual activities that create a space where you can interact personally with Jesus Christ.

We also offer an occasional Theme-based Growth Group that meets around the theme of Spiritual Practices.

Click here for resources to help you integrate spiritual practices into your every day life

Seminar Topics

I’m New

What to Expect

It’s a big deal visiting a new church for the first time…It’s easy to feel out of place. Do I belong here? Am I really welcome? Will the people be too friendly or not friendly enough? Will I stand out? Will they ask me for money? Will my kids enjoy it? How should I dress? Can I come even if I’m not sure what I believe?
At Spring Green Community Church , we want to make your visit a good one – easy, straightforward, uncomplicated. We are intentionally “user-friendly” for people, no matter what their background – you don’t have to have church ‘figured out’ to walk through our door. In fact, many of our people were not regular church attenders before finding SGCC, so you’re in good company! Here is a brief overview of what you can expect at your first visit.

Showing up

When you arrive at SGCC (151 E Bossard) for our 9:15 Sunday School (Children age 4 through High School, during the school year only) or our 10:30am services for both Worship and children’s church (dismiss about 10:45 a.m.), you’ll find ample parking with parking reserved for guests (the first section when you enter the parking lot).
At the front door, you will likely find a friendly face to say hello and answer any questions you have. If you have kids, our Welcome Center Hosts will gladly direct you to age-appropriate opportunities.
You’ll notice that everyone is dressed comfortably, in everything from “office casual” to jeans and flip-flops. If you’ve got a minute, please help yourself to a cup of coffee near the entrance, and pick up information in the lobby area.

Through the doors

When you enter the auditorium, you’ll be given a bulletin with a Connect Card which is a simple way for us to get better acquainted. The service usually begins with a welcome and greeting followed by some upbeat music led by our worship team . The message time (usually about 30 minutes) is Biblically based, relevant to daily life, interesting, and enjoyable.
When it is all over, if we do our job right, you should have experienced solid Christian teaching in intelligent, understandable and relevant terms. Our goal is to provide everyone who walks through our door a genuine experience of God that can be transformational.
